tips and tricks: installing a 1mzfe front mount, dogbone and trans strut

hello everyone!

well i finally installed my custom polyurethane front mount and dogbone and i thought i'll give you guys some tips on installing them

front mount (removal)

to get the top bolt out i used an impact wrench with a shorth and a long extension on it... the bolt is 17mm

the other bolts are 14mm and i also used the impact gun

if your mount is in the same condition mine was (destroyed) then just slide it away... if the mount is still somewhat together you will need to lift the engine a little to get it out (see pics below on hoe to lift the engine)

(install)

the problem i had is the engine was wayy to low for me to put the mount back on so here is what you might want to do

voila!

dogbone (removal)

take out the 2 14mm bolts and get it out lol

(install)

well i had a little alignement problem so here is what i did

trans strut (removal)

i used an air ratchet to get the 2 14mm bolts on the trans and then stuck as many extensions as possible on a ratchet and applied continuous torque to break loose the 2 14mm bolts on the subframe (these are a bitch)

(install)

i'm not installing an oem trans strut, instead, i'm using a solid mount made by adam.

i reversed the bracket so that later i can only remove the horizontal botl instead of fighting the 2 bolts on the subframe

the front mount is really nice the engine doesnt move anymore the dogbone is maybe a little bit soft in 60a urethane so i might re-do it in 80a

when you put the car in drive or reverse and hold the brake you can definitively feel new vibrations (i like them ) but its really not that bad. when you go and rev it over 1000-1200 rpm the vibration goes away!

love the way you jacked the engine...most people would use the pan - big mistake...putting the weight of the engine on the pan crushes the pan seal - greatly shortening the life of the pan to block seal.

Thanks for posting the pics

For installing the main motor mount did you first remove the dogbone mount ?

Why not lift the engine from the oil pan with a block of wood on the jack - this would spread the force across a larger surface area.

doesn't matter...your greatly reducing the lifespan of your oil pan gasket. The gasket compresses, and breaks the seal.

no left the old dogbone in...

why would i want to lift it from the oil pan? its not good plus you have way more leverage force on the spot i used

So whats the point of the solid front trans mount? Just curious if it's worth it...

keeps the engine from rocking backward... plus its never going to wear out

i did the test where you press the brake and give ir gas on "drive" and the engine maybe moved 1/8 of an inch
