Exterior Door Handle

Just caught two kids trying to break in my daughters car. They broke the plastic door handle on drivers side. Can this plastic side be JB welded or should I replace with new handle.

You COULD JB weld it... but i'd just replace it. Check local junkyards for the correct part or car-part.com. Ebay also has them for cheap. There's a DIY on the replacement job in the sticky.

4th Generation

You can get a replacement for around $20 for a new aftermarket one from Car Parts wholesale. If you want a color matched one from the dealer, I paid around $78 dollars from DiscountToyotaparts.com for a new one back in April. Takes about maybe an hour to do the job if you haven't done it before. Hardest part for me was taking the old handle off. Pretty easy second time around. Just replaced the door lock actuator on the driver's side this past Sunday on my daughter's 99 Camry.

Good luck,

Dave

I personally would go to the junkyard to get it if you've never done it before. This way, you practice how to remove it. If you break something, it's no big deal, you just move on to the next camry! Plus it'll be cheaper. You could probably get a paint shop to match it pretty cheap, or get a can of matched paint for ~$8.

removal is pretty easy and straight forward.......however here....every stinking camry has no dang handles left!! I been to 30 yards and I cant find one anywhere!! arrrrrgh!!! You should only need a couple of sockets really. Believe 10mm if I am not mistaken...a extension shaft will come in handy also

This is a VERY common problem on Camry and Corolla. That's why almost every autoparts outlet has them. Ebay too.

If they weren't selling a bunch of them, they wouldn't be stocking them.

There is a guy on fleabay that had them painted for a really reasonable price. The only problem I had was that the bottom edge of the handle snaps in and I broke one clip. But if you take your time its a breeze.

Make sure to pick up a pack of clips for the door panel. A few will break while taking it off.

On another note I saw a ghetto camry and the guy replace the handle by screwing in a cabinet handle with 2 drywall screws. Just throwing out some ideas.
