blew the second used alternator last night. I am running alot of stereo about 2000w, what direct swaps are there or just rebuild it. I recall someone saying they had a 300a ford and also that highlander alternators work as well. What options do i have ? search function isn't working.
thanks in advance once again.

Ok thanks. I was aware of that, I am just shy of 2000w but none the less I do need something higher than stock, and on the affordable side quickly, having to drive the gas guuzzeler to and from work. Thought i might have a option from a pick and choose scrap yard. I guess ill check out a few toyota vehicles tomorrow after work.
I was the one with the Ford 3G alt, It's not the cheapest option, and it's also not a direct bolt on process.
Ford 3G's also don't come in 300amp stock, mine was built by Excessive Amperage. I got mine used for $50, they are around $500 new, that had a big part in why I used it.
A rebuild will cost me $82.50. I have the big 3 done in 2gauge wire didnt notice anything but nice to know its done, and i work beside a scrap yard so ill check one out tomorrow for a highlander, and i sure will be keeping an I out for a Ford 3G was there a large amount of modification or any tig welding involved as i dont and cant weld alum.
thanks for all the info guys.

If it wont go make it go.
So after looking for awhile looks like a 2001-2003 highlander puts out 100amps i think mine is 90 not much of an upgrade. But a 2005 highlander with prep package puts out 130amps. A sequoia on some models puts out 150amps looks like it could work. looking at a 4runner they put out between 65 and 100. I guess research is going to determine this one!

What I would do is take your alt off (or one off a car at the junkyard) and bring it around to the Toyota SUV's and see if they're the same or close enough.
I have a spare now so ill be a the scrap yard tomorrow for abit to see whats similar but a GM CS144 single or dual rectifier alternator will work its got a 2'' thick spot where it mount as the toyota has a 2 1/4'' thick spot so a few washers solves that just rewiring it a plug would be the most work but still very little. and they put out between 160 and 250amps and there is a ton of them out there ill be trying it this weekend as I have about 8 GM cars and trucks rusting away around here lol

To make the Ford 3G fit I had to cut about 1/4 inch off from one of the alt's brackets, The one closest to the engine, as the alt's bracket is wider than the toyota one. On the front I had to make the bracket that holds the front of the alt, and lets you tension it, I did that with some angle iron, a mig welder, a cut-off wheel, a die grinder, and a can of spray paint.

Here is a pic of how it was installed:
and here is how to wire them as a one wire alt:
That looks great ill keep an eye out for a F250 or such that i can grab the alt off of it. Do you recall what yours was off? I am fully able to have that work for me and do it myself, nice of you to show the wiring as well. got my rebuilt OE alt back tested out at 110amps according to him. I might spend a few hours with him and learn a few things as he is 80 years old. Not bad for $82.50 new brushes, bearings, rectifier and sandblast/paint. looks new!
