fuel saver equipment

Hi All,

I have been seaching around via google (http://www.google.com.kh/search?um=1...-8&sa=N&tab=iw), and found an equipment called "fuel saver" that can be used to reduce the fuel consumption of a car.

I wonder if those equipments is worth to get one? Could you please advice what are the disadvantage of this?

Thank you very much for your time.

It's a scam.

If improving gas mileage were that simple & inexpensive, all the auto makers would install that sort or thing to improve their CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy), instead of spending billions designing hybrids and improving gasoline engine efficiency.

^^Why can't people just use the search button. It's been covered a million times, and everyone and their mom knows that saving fuel or gaining power is not cheap.

One thing you could try that might help save fuel is a map enhancer. The following picture is one that I made myself.

I always got the "mixture too lean" code when I first started (sometimes I still get it). I know this throws the car into a closed loop (or is it open, I forget) which dumps more gas into the cylinders, but either way; closed or open, you will see an improvement in fuel economy I'm sure.

ANother thing that happened to me when I first started - you EGT will be VERY high the leaner you go. My stock exhaust manifold changed colors from brownish to brown-blue to almost a grayish blue after a long trip! I decided to inspect the upstream o2 sensor one day and found that it was partially melted!!! So I went online and found an o2 sensor extender which takes the sensor partially out of the path of the exhaust but still allows its function. When I changed to a stainless steel header they turned different colors as well but of course they don't rust

Just thought I'd give you a heads up on what to expect - I still use the MAP enhancer and I have not had a single problem with raised EGT since I started using it more than 2 years ago. It's a great mod which will pay for itself many times over, giving you more control over your mixture.

The next step after that is to get a wideband o2 sensor, but I'm waiting for the engine swap before I do this...good luck!

^I second that one...

The MAP enhancer is easy to build (or you can buy one if you are so inclined) and easy to install. This is only my opinion - and driving habits vary - but you may see up to 3-4MPG increase in hiway and possibly 2-3 MPG increase in city once you and the computer get used to the MAP enhancer settings.

Admittedly, I drive rather fast - but the gains are there to be had even if you have a lead foot. I have had an enhancer for more than 2 years now, and love it

Just a ballpark, but before the MAP enhancer installation I was getting 22/31 (27 combined MPG)
Currently (with 306K on the odometer mind you) I get 25/33 (combined 28 MPG) driving 25K miles per year, mostly interstate trips

My city mileage may be a tad better since my Camry has close to a 300 lb weight reduction in addition to a header, full 2.5" exhaust, and some other N/A mods

I recently took a 300-mile interstate trip without the MAP enhancer hooked up and I got 28 MPG. If it's easier to draw air into the engine the computer will add more fuel to get close to the right A/F mixture, which kills your economy. But properly tuned you CAN and WILL see benefits which will cover the cost of the enhancer

those were big a few years back when we had 4.00/gal gas...lots of news stations tested them and came up with SCAM...I'm sure people selling them made millions.

By the way - have you hooked yours up yet? Been curious to see how it works for you...

no i haven't hooked it up yet, I need to get the o2 extenders before I install it so I don't melt the sensors. ehe

They make sense though, because Effectively they are controlling the MAP Sensor voltage with a Potentiometer and resistors. If you can control the voltage, then you can control how much fuel the ECM is feeding to the car
