3rd Generation White Reverse Glow Gauge Installation for Gen3 (Lots o Pics)

Hey guys, reverse glows got in today and i decided to take some pictures of the whole process. I will explain to some extent some of the steps where the pictures are not labeled to help you out. Pretty straight forward installation though

Tools Needed:

1. Phillips head screw driver
2. Flathead screw driver
3. Fuse Tap (2.00 USD for a pack of them)
4. Glow Gauges (30 USD)
5. 1/2" Drill bit and Cordless or corded drill

Total Cost (about $34.00 USD) tax included

Enjoy

Note: The kit I purchased came with 3m doublesided tape which I used to hold the scissor cut piece onto the new gauges. If you do not transfer the plastic pieces, you will just have bright lights instead of pictures

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask!

This step, remove the cigarette lighter surrounding (held in by clips)

Wiring the Gauges

This is an addition to the write up.. Instead of wiring your gauges to a Toggle (on/off) Switch, why not wire them to your Headlight switch? Follow the guide below to complete your project

In the following pictures I wrap the wire directly to the fuse. I only did this to show how it works. In no means should you ever wire anything in this manner. Get the right tools for the job!

Fuse Tap Link :

Store: Autozone
Part Number : 85606
Price : $1.99

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...dentifier=6427

You wire it on the side that doesn't have power because that's the switched voltage. Which means if something shorts out, it will just pop the fuse instead of having a constant supply of voltage

Very nice. A few night or glowing pics would be nice too. I just think it would be too bright for me.

Thanks Im very interested. Ive wanted to do something with my gauges but Ive seen reverse glow gauges on other vehicles and I dont like how bright they are. Frankly I find it distracting and I dont need the extra added attention, good or bad. Maybe if I layed down a light coat of VHT Nightshades over top of the gauges.... Hmm.. Got me thinking now... Cant wait to see more. Thanks for sharing.

very nice write up!

I had these installed back in high school.. And after 8-12 months the double sided tape started coming off and the gauges lifted off just enough so the needles couldn't move . Needless to say I had to remove them. I have uncovered parking though and obviously it's HOT in Hawaii so your experience will definitely vary. I definitely liked them while I had 'em though!

^Maybe the tape that comes with it isn't strong enough?

Nice writeup! Wish I could justify doing it, but already have a full LED dash setup

Hehe. That 3m tape that comes with the gauges I got is some really strong stuff. Just make sure everything is extremely clean before doing it. Having dirt particles or grease on the plastic where the adhesive tape sits will make the tape not as sticky and will fail. If everything is clean you will not have any problems. The OEM Gauge faces are held on by a similar adhesive too

I've added a few steps on how to wire the gauges at the bottom of my write up as well.. night pics coming soon...

I took a few pictures of it at night

I like it more at night than I do in the day time. The only part I dont like is the center circle in both gauges. Do you have a link? I may customize some guages to my liking...

Do these run off their own light or the stock green light? cause i see bits of green around the sides? i have a full Blue led soldered conversion already. but im interested in doing this.. Not a big fan of the white but I wish so bad that i could find a set of reverse glow in black then i would be all over it.

great job
