I Think I Was Ripped Off

My Toyota dealership wanted $30.25 for a thermostat and $10.00 for a gasket. I paid it because the weather was warm and I wanted to get it done. My local auto parts stores didn't carry OEM but the thermostats they were selling were closer to $12.00. Was I ripped off?

Dealer is always more expensive

But its Original Equipment, so you know it should work like its supposed to.

I rebuilt the shifter on my ranger 2 weeks ago. I had to get some washers and 2 plastic spacers and it cost me almost 80 bucks. Gotta love dealer only parts....

snap-on didn't carry the spacers? They usually have weird parts like that

Seems as though Nervous is correct. I'm listing $16.18 for the thermostat and $4.18 for the gasket on ToyotaPartsCenter.com

^+1!!

I've had so many bad experiences with aftermarket thermostats I won't use anything but OEM. Well worth the extra $.

nah, it's a normal dealer pricing (MSRP) when you need something quick over the counter
at least they had it in stock ... my local dealer almost never has what I need and need to special order (2 days wait time).

4th Generation

My local dealership was like your pricing. I didn't need them right then and had a few days. Got the OEM thermostat for $14.65 and the gasket (water inlet) for $3.89. The local dealer didn't have the gasket in stock, had to order it. Got mine from Toyotapartszone.com.

Good place for future orders.
