Transmission code 61

1993 2.2 automatic. Bought the car with 140,000 miles. O/D light flashing code 61, VSS#2 by the manifold. It only starts to blink when the car is near the 3-4 gear change (around 40 mph). Replaced the sensor and still blinking. 50,000 miles later the tranny blew up Replaced the tranny and still blinking. WTF!. What else can I look for? Is there any Toyota specialist here that I can contact? Thanks.

have you checked for

Severed wire harness or short circuit? It could also be a Faulty ECU. Since you've replaced the VSS#2 and Transmission and its still blinking. You've narrowed the problem down to either a shorted wire in the harness or a faulty ECU. Check the wiring between the VSS#2 and the ECM. If that checks out, refer to your FSM and check the ECM.
