3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
As some of you know..I crashed my green coupe...and I have been looking for another vehicle...Well I decided although I do want an MR2 I will wait until February to get one...for now I will pick up another 5spd Camry Coupe 5s. Its all black and it has some interesting things on it...
I wanted to know if anyone has ever seen this before...the seller says it has dual throttle bodies and a summit racing ignition module setup, port matching for both intake and exhaust, and a header, no p/s or a/c, the engine was rebuilt 30k miles ago and some other things....has anyone ever seen this before?
The car is only $700 even if this is junk for a motor...i have 2 others and this has some goodies that I might take off it...
I know the quality sux but this was all he sent me for an engine shot
TIA

IM BAAAAAACK!!!!!!!
wow that thing looks like crap. lol .. For $700.00 though if the body is in good shape i'de be all over it ! I bought my 95 camry for $800.00 with a bad motor. Body was immaculate though.
That Throttle body setup is scary. It looks like the TB's dont have filters and thats no good at all. I doubt he ported the head too. From that scary wiring and setup that motor has it looks like he doesn't know much about cars.
Seems like one of those guys who talks like they know about stuff, but really dont. . hehe
Like i said, if the body is solid . Buy it.
Take a magnet and touch it around the rear wheel wells too . Seems like he/she would put puddy where rust holes are. If the magnet doesn't stick .. I would fray away from purchasing it
Looks like a real mess in there. I don't think I'd take the word of anybody that created that!
I was thinking the same thing...I have a hard enough time sorting out the normal wiring harness...trying to figure out someone elses mess is going to be doubly hard.
I would suggest taking a look at the ecu (behind the glove box) to make sure there's no funny wiring, or weird stuff happening their.
Do you have any better pictures of the motor or any of the actual vehicle?
Other things to check ... Check underneath the dashboard for wiring fiasco. Especially where the Head unit connects. If it has an aftermarket head unit It probably has the plug cut off and hard wired.
Check underneath the car too . Feel around the rear wheel arches for rust , Pull the Rear carpet molding out and inspect the condition of the quarters. Pull the spare tire out and inspect where the spare is set in place. Check bottoms of doors underneath the panels for rust.
I do have to say .. I'de rock that header for sure. hehe
I will def look into all of these things....the only bad part is he is about a 4 hour trip one way from me....he is sending me videos of it running tho....also he removed the filters off the tbs and just put plugs in there so nothing got inside the intake...idk guys...this seems like a fun little project...i do have pics of the car...it looks like its in ok shape...but it does have celica seats in the front.........(f) it....i think im going to buy it and just have a Chris Crash project.....

hehe .. I would seriously go look at it though. Pictures aren't everything. Look at the Superstreet Flat black car project. That car looked so awesome, and I remember reading an article written by the owner saying that it actually was really hard to get the nice pictures. The paint was actually crap. In the pictures it looked awesome though.
What i'm getting at:
The car may look really awesome in a photo but the body may be completely shot. I drove 3.5 hours to check out my 95 camry (Troy, PA).
It would be very disappointing to see you spend $700.00 and find out that the body is shot.
I wouldn't worry about the motor or wiring because like you said, you have two of them. If you view the car in person too .. you can also Talk him down. Find everything possible thats wrong with it, throw him a really low price ... like $400.00 and meet in the middle.
I thought it was interesting tho to hear him say how he chopped off a flange from another stock intake and then aluminum welded it onto this one...then put the other tb on..... thats epic....custom at its finest...a mess...but custom nonetheless.....

its actually a really neat idea, but with the stock runners to the plenum its completely pointless.
You can only force so much air into the motor with stock runners. lol Widen those runners on that setup and port the head to match them on either side. Grind the cams for more lift and your in business.
