HKS afr type d opinions

Hey guys, I was looking around for a cost-effective product relating to fuel management. (Something under $250 bucks) I found this product on HKS' site: http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=631&rsku=4270
And I was wondering what your thoughts are on this AFR controller.

Also, I did a search on our ecus. They tend to be rock solid, meaning they don't like to accept auxiliary data, therefore they correct the AFR even when you are trying to adjust it from a third-party controller.

^^^^^Basically I want to know if the ecu would allow this controller to effectively do its job on a 5SFE engine.

Edit: BTW, I have a CAI from Injen installed and thats about it for performance mods...

I honestly dont think that would really work for our cars....I mean for the price...all u would need is a Radio Shack potentiometer to do the same thing (thats all this is)....HKS just makes it sound cooler...and charges more money....and I think our ECUs (if I am correct) will offset the controller and bring it back to normal anyways....you are just fluctuating the electronic signal...and our cars dont like that....

Hmm, thank you for the info on how it is basically a potentiometer. That makes sense...

I was going to get it until you mentioned that HKS just makes it look cool. Besides, I've read and heard too many complaints on how the ecus are too stubborn.

@jtex, do you happen to know of any product that is low cost-effective and changes the afr to where it works?

Would adding just a fuel pressure regulator to increase the fuel pressure add any seat-of-the-pants benefit?

Where's Mr. Perkins when you need him? He just did a well documented post on how to build one, IIRC.

edit: or was that lemegacool?

I think it was Perkins....iirc....anyways...there is a thread around here somewhere which touches this topic.

I myself havent found the need to get into this too much just because I like basic mods...but if in the event I do I will def help shed some light to the community...
