I need to get my hood painted, it's been primed for 4 months, I've been waiting on my Uncle to help me out, I am not waiting any longer because Winter is right around the corner. If anyone here paints or knows a good place..lemme know!
I really hate to see how much it will cost to get my hood (primed) and front bumper cover (nothing done) painted, any ideas? I want to stay away from MAACO because I hear horror stories all the time. I want the cheapest route too, I'm hoping it's less than $400 for both...I'm not looking for a perfect job, but as long as it matches the rest of my car.
Also, is there a DIY or walkthrough for taking off the Gen4 plastic front bumper cover?
I don't want to prep my bumper, and who knows, the hood has to be prepped again because I've been driving with the hood on for 3 months or so (end of august/early september it was finished).
I'd take it to MAACO if it was cheap and they gave me some kind of warranty incase their paint chips/cracks/ etc. Fading is no problem though.
Well it would look better then prime but still not as good without a clear coat :P A shop that actually paints though, would right? Then again it's more money.
What the hell are they doing for $180 for a damn hood at MAACO then? If they don't prime, and only paint, which is like $40 for paint, I'm paying $140 in labor to paint? Thats a bit extreme. Really wish my Uncle wasn't lazy right about now.
EDIT: Got a message from him, telling me to look for a place to do it but before I get it done, he will try to do it...does that make any sense at all lol?
If you want it to look good, you gotta either do some work yourself or pay some money.
Your cheapest option is do your own prep, and get it done at maaco or peach. Once you get it back, I would even wet sand it a few times, then put your own clear coat on it. Then it'll shine.
Yah that's true, maybe I can make MAACO paint it but then clear coat it myself...got to sort this whole thing out lol. Front bumper removal seems easy, bunch of clips, just wondering if there was a guide of some sort to make sure I get all the clips
I paid $800.00 when I painted my civic (Supplies). That was total cost of all base coat / clear / hardener / stabilizer, primer sealer, sand paper for my DA.
Make sure when the car is done and painted to use 3000 wet / dry paper, wet sand the entire car to get it super super smooth and then buff the hell out of it
3000 grit is final sand. Gives the car a mirror finish
Painting, going to get a front bumper cover [RAW] and a hood [PRIMED] painted, as well as the little strip on the left side of the front fender [ALSO PRIMED].
I talked to a guy, who said he's been painting for 30 years, I didn't mention the little strip (hell I forgot about it til now, it's primered) and he said he will paint, clear coat, wet sand, all that, for about 450-500. I'm hoping I can talk to him to get 400, if max of 450. He's probably the cheapest I've talked to, the other shops, either gave me an estimate of 500 and over or wouldn't give me an estimate over the phone, and hell I ain't wasting gas lol.
Is this the right price? I live in NY if that matters, things are a bit more pricey up here. It's either I pay now or wait for my god damn uncle who is never coming around to help me...and even if he did, I'd save about what, 200 or so...maybe not even.
I just want this job done but if I do it, I'm taking the money out of my school loans...but hey, it's worth it D:
Merging with your previous thread. You don't need a new one!

Thanks Tried to find it, completely missed it ahaha.
Oh wait, it looks like I already posted about this one guy lol . Any thoughts on it though? No clue if it's single stage paint...I can call tomorrow and ask. What questions should I be asking?
I wouldn't even bother unless it's prepped correctly (either by yourself or him), then color, THEN clear. I've never had anything painted personally, but i'd assume that it's a decent price.

Well I'm pretty sure it's been prepped good [Sanded, filled in the gaps (red lead), primed, sanded, primed, etc.] Everything was done to make it smooth, but hell it might have to be re-sanded due to driving around with it since September.
I'll try calling other places, I want to get this done so I don't have to wait til March
