3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Since most of the stickied threads were for Camries not fitted with the 1MZ engine, I have a huge problem. And it also serves as an argument between me and my idiot father.
I bought a near-acceptable 1994 for $300, and the only thing wrong with it (besides ignition) was the fact that the transmission began to be problematic, as demonstrated with a quick drive around my neighborhood. It works for a few minutes, then, the engine revs, but it's not accelerating. It's on D too. Got back home, father checked fluid (never heard back from him yet), and an A54XX sits in my garage.
What could be wrong?! I just want it fixed so I could quickly get rid of my DD.
the tranny is slipping. thats wat happend to mine recent and blew my engine tryin to drive like that like a dummy. i tried that lucus tranny thing and did a tranny flush and changed the filter but it still didnt help. maybe your lucky
Definitely a bad transmission.
If the gears aren't shifting like it should be or it high revs after it has shifted, its toast.
Double check it though as he said^. Change the fluid and such, but I'm sure it's done for though.
o but then again i only blew my engine cause i forgot about my oil leak and since my tranny had me reving higher then normal i ended up wit no oil and voila. another project to my list.
Definitely a bad transmission.

It does shift through the gears, but just give a few minutes later and no power to the transmission at all. It'll rev and still wouldn't go up 1 MPH.
^Yup. I'm almost positive its toast. It may actually be certain gears that are completely gone, but once you pull the tranny out to replace the worn parts, you might as well replace everything.
I'm sure the torque converter is the main culprit here, those cost about $500.

I actually hoped it wasn't the case but because the transmission that I recently bought had a torque converter, I just wanted it fixed so my old man doesn't start an argument with me (which always ends with him being immature saying he's right, I'm wrong when it's the other way around.)
I mean, the gears work, up until that minute. Reverse works too.
