3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have 96 V6 Wagon le with 199,671 miles on it. I'm getting the same power from the motor that I did when it was new. Is it possible to do some minor work to regain some HP?
Nooooo no no. The OP said he still has original power, but wants some more. And zythr is saying too much extra power and you'll get torque steer, but I doubt it will happen with small gains.

yes, I thought that was what the OP was saying.....which makes the advice of needing to "redo" your suspension after gaining 10hp even worse.
Cracker, pay no attention to the advice about redoing your suspension.
In terms of getting your engine back to factory spec - could be some simple things - like plugs, wires, air filter, etc, etc...I've read a few people who use an engine restore oil additive (like lucas) that might help by giving your better compression...I've never used it, but maybe worth looking into.

try and remember, the point of the board is to help each other - if you don't know an answer, there's no shame in just not writing anything....hard to keep quiet when I read something completely without merit....I feel somewhat duty bound, again, for a better board, to correct the sillier things written here....and the idea of returning an engine to spec hp, and having to "redo" the suspension is just not very good advice.
I did not say I did. If he would want a nice size increase in power he would need to "redo" the suspension to handle the increase in power and/or torque,
but the OP made no mention of a nice increase in hp, in fact, the opposite - he mentioned "minor work" to "regain" some hp....
If you can't answer a post, your not doing the board any good by interjecting information without merit,...re-gaining hp, and minor work do not require that he "redo" his suspension.

Oh great reluctantmechanic, I bow to your intelligence. I now know you are very wise and will not question your vast knowledge of anything automotive ever again. I think you, oh wise one, should be the leader of all on this board, since no one can here can compete with the amount of knowledge you possess
I think just basic tune up like filters and fluids will gain back some lost power. Changing the spark plugs with NGK is good too. But a PITA on v6. I shorten the factory air intake on my Camry; just took off the resonator crap behind the bumper cover. I don't think I gain any power but it has a deeper sound now.

lol! I have but little knowledge when compared to the vast majority of posters here - but even my limited knowledge would, indeed, seem vast compared to yours!
I know constructive criticism isn't easy to swallow - but I've noticed many of your posts are generalizations, and, like the above, if you don't know a direct answer, you'll post something unrelated.
There's no shame in not posting if you don't know an answer, and throwing out advice that isn't related doesn't help the original poster at all.
