3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
You want these. I put them in my gen4 and their almost the perfect brightness, maybe just a tad to bright. You might wanna look for some with 3 smd leds but I havent found any.
You don't want them to be crazy bright because it'll shine onto the ground and sorta look tacky.
SMD LEDs are just small LEDs with 4 pins that are square shaped. SMD just means they're for Surface Mount soldering applications. They tend to be brighter (higher MCD rating/lumens output) and tend to last longer than traditional style LEDs, IIRC.
Yeah... I forgot what SMD stands for. Sue me.

wow then I'm quite lucky lol with illegal tint no plate lights i'm surprised nothings been caught yet guess i should order what carsrus recommends
yes i would recommend those LEDs for you as well, color of your choice. Where i am CA. I can only use white color. Don't know about British Columbia regulation of license plate color light. You can get away during day time, but night time would be cautious, anal cop would be all over you. So just ride safe w/ license plate light.
^Yeah i'm sure its only white that we're allowed up here in BC. Cuz I've heard stories that some anal cops if they see a car that's not suppose to have HID's (probably if there blueish - purplish) will pull them over cuz its not stock in the car... so i'll just be safe like you said :P cuz they have enough reason to pull me over now. i don't want tempt them more with blue plate led's

How do you install them? Just pop off the cover thing or is there something special to it? Never did this in my life
on gen4/4.5 camry. unscrew the screw that is holding the bulb case. Slide the case out of place and it'll come out. Disconnect the power plug behind the socket by squeeze and pull on the tab. Then twist the socket out and there you have it. Out with the old and in with the new. Very easy.

Surface Mounted Device. The term applies to more than just diodes, You might also see Surface Mount Technology (SMT). The term is used to generalize an entire array of chip packages like QFP (Quad Flat Package), BGA (Ball Grid Array), SOIC (Small Outline Integrated Circuit). There are hundreds of different pin configurations, so SMD is used when it's not really important to know the proper package type.
sorry for being anal about that, embedded electronics is a hobby of mine, an expensive hobby at that.
