Question Replacing a catalytic converter no arrows which is in and out - which way to mount?

I am going to replace the exhaust from the cat back including the direct fit Walker catalytic converter model #15538 on my 1993 Toyota Camry 2.2L 4 cylinder. The converter has no marks, arrows or anything showing the direction the converter should be mounted. Both ends of the converter are exactly the same in diameter and could be mounted either way. Anyone have any ideas?

I just installed a new cat in my Hilux. It was a walker unit, and it, at first appearance, looked symmetrical from front to rear. After initial install, you could see that the flanges were slightly pitched at one end to accommodate the angle of the pipe in front and behind. Although it fit both ways, you could see that the adjacent flanges were not parallel when installed one way. If you unbolted it, and turned it around, the flanges mated exactly as the original.

Don't know if your toyota is the same, but that's how I figured out which way it went, being that there were no markings or instructions.

Good luck.

From what I see in the Walker catalog, you can use either end as the inlet, as it is a straight through design. Unless there are bends that the catalog doesn't show at the inlet or outlet.

Correct.

The cat, on my hilux, looks perfectly straight when in your hands, or on a table. or anywhere else, not mounted to the y pipe. Once you mount it to the y, the rear flange either is parallel or not to the intermediate pipe to the muffler. I just installed a new cat in the truck about 3 weeks ago, and I remember assembling then disassembling the pipes, to turn the cat back round 180deg. to correct the rear flange alignment.
