3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I've been putting my backyard auto body skills to the test....
When I started on it the fender was mangled, the trunk wouldn't close, and the bumper was creased in a lot more. I managed to get behind the bumper cover and pry it back out. I had to remove and bend the trunk and fender back into shape and then sand, prime, and paint everything. Here's what I got so far...
Thanks. It was awful when I first got it. I wish I had taken a before of the fender and bumper. I had a weight on the trunk because the latch wasn't lined up. I'm putting the fender back on tomorrow once it's dry, then I'll take some better pictures. I really need to replace the fender though. But this will work in the meantime.
Here's a few more pictures of the car after I repainted most of the front bumper, and finished with the trunk. I still have to touch up the back bumper and put a second coat on up front.
I need to replace the driver fender still, so I'm hoping I can find one in the junkyard this week. Every time I work on this thing, I hate the p.o. just a little bit more.
Here's the front before I prepped and painted. That primer was already on there...
And here's after Painting..
And here's a finished shot of the trunk minus the bumper touch ups
Not bad, not bad. I would have smooooooooooooothed things out a bit more. But not bad!

Yea it could be better, but I'm doing the work for free so I don't want to invest a lot. I just want to get it back somewhat presentable. Lazy... I know..
Alright the car is as done as it's going to get. I spent 2 hours buffing and waxing it, and they aren't in the pictures but I got new steel wheels, hubcaps, and tires put on it. The paint cleaned up so much after the waxing.
I took these pictures with a better camera than the half megapixel thing on my phone too, so that helps. Now I just have to sell this thing before I end up buying it myself.
Yea the fender is trash really. But I'm only replacing it if I end up with the car. I'm trying to sell it for someone else, and they don't want to pay to replace it. I couldn't find one at the junkyard and shipping fenders is crazy expensive.
Thanks. Well the wheels all match now too. Last night I picked up a set of wheels and tires but I put them on after I took these. I only spent 11 bucks on paint, and clear coat, and I had a leftover can of primer, and 120 on new wheels and tires on craigslist. So for 130 dollars it's a night and day difference
Dude, with the exception of the fender and the missing hubcap, you did a really, really, really, really good job on this. Props. Body work is a pain.
+1. Great job. It looks A LOT better than I thought it would. But trash that fender, and get matching OEM hubcaps.
