Question Catalytic converter metal flanges are not quite flush with the back pipe – a problem

Catalytic converter metal flanges are not quite flush with the back pipe – a problem or not?
I am replacing from the front pipe back including a Walker catalytic converter (model #15538) on my 1993 Toyota Camry 2.2L.
I have all the “direct fit pipes” out of the box and ready to install.
The old exhaust is still in the car, but I was able to match up the converter and the back pipe and the flange holes align great, but I noticed that there is about a 1/16 air gap between the two flanges.
I received with the converter a flange gaskets and donut gaskets.
Even when I place the flange gasket on there is still and small air gap.
It looks like the pipe sticks out a little on the converter and there is no way both metal flanges can meet and be flush with each other
The small exhaust donut gasket would provide a great seal and be nice and tight, but there would still be that small gap between the metal flanges.
Correct me if I am wrong, but since the exhaust just basically flows through this and there really isn’t that much pressure this should be ok?
Please let me know if you ever ran into this situation before.

One other thing I would to add to my post above. The pipe from the back exhaust pipe extends approx. 1.5 inches and fits perfectly into the cat. Does not even get near touching the screening.

At only 1/16 I wouldn't worry, after you tighten the flange bolts it will be much less if there is a gap at all. ANd remember to tighten the bolts evenly, a cocked flange will leak.

that should be okay. having the pipe stick out slightly more than the flange would help to create a seal on the pipe when you crank down on the bolts.

bolt everything up and turn her on. you will hear if its leaking, you can always make your own gasket cut from a sheet of gasket material (should be sold at most auto parts stores) and bolt it back up again. you cant harm anything by bolting it up and taking it apart again if needed.
