3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
In the eyes of the general public: It's just a 5-speed camry.
On ToyotaNation... DUDE BUY IT. They're pretty rare and fun (for a camry).

The BEST combination you can Buy in a CAMRY, don't pass it up! Even if you buy it and part out the tranny to ............anyone here on TN who wants to do a auto to manual swap...........they are very rare, and very ball-sy!

Well, TRD charger would have to be for a 3vz. The 1MZ was never paired to the 5-speed tranny from the factory for gen 3. If it's a gen 4, then yes... SUPERCHARGER FTMFW.

It is only words until you find someone how has done. People will say get it get it get it!
Few things to consider. Look under your car see what else needs or do to rust will need to be replaced. things like exhaust, headers, sway bar, bushing, etc. The other thing I personally found literally just making my car drivable yesterday and this morning was it will drain you if you are not careful. the guides tell you of most of the parts. About 95%. What is doesn't tell you is that YOU WILL brake bolts. So continuous trips to toyota for small retarded little bolts will happen.
Here is what I noticed from my end result. I still need some adjustments. I still need to clear some ECU codes and wire a 02 simulator. :P BUT from driving it, with the pwr of the V6 now having about a 5 to 10% power loss compared to the lose of a torque converter OMG. There are no words to explain how demonic that car is now.
Got any questions let me know.

My auto v6 camry is supercharged and runs faster than 14.46s quarter miles.
I just bought a 5 speed and will be installing it into my car come Spring. I'll be installing with it a Stage 2 clutch and a limited slip differential.
Let me tell you... I CANT WAIT!!!
The 5 speed has lots of benefits. No torque converter to lose power, and it's a lot lighter than the 4 speed (around 100 lbs lighter from what I've heard). Plus it's easier to maintain and you can put an LSD in it to help with burn outs and overall traction.
It generally costs around $2,000 - $3,000 to do a 5 speed swap.
