as long as they are NGK or Denso you should be fine. You will notice a more complete combustion compared to the 2+

Bosch Spark plugs are a no no

Yes, but why? I actually got worse mileage with the 4 electrode than with the stock plugs.

I would return them to store and get NGK Laser Platinum (OEM) or Denso Double Platinum (OEM) instead and both are said to be good up to 100k miles. You may also go with single electrode NGK Iridium-IX, but they last not much more than 30k miles.

Stay away from Bosch plugs (any). I used Platinum+2 in past and despite they were giving me a little better mileage at first over old original Denso OEM plugs, the performance of car was very sluggish.

Some people reported electrode tip (or center ground) getting worn on those Bosch plugs VERY quickly causing improper spark in as little as 10k miles.

Did you pull your distributor cap off? If so it sounds like the rotor is 180 degrees out. Get your motor to TDC and rotate the rotor 180 degrees

You should have just posted this in your other post about the firing order

You are correct. Starting with generation 4 in 1997, a distributor was no longer used.

You could have the plug wires out of order. I would double check them. If the old plug wires were the originals, they should have the cylinder numbers marked on them.

I would also check to see that the wires are seated properly on the coil pack ends. If they are not seated properly, they could be arcing between 2 or more of the wires.

hi thx for the tips. i have triple checked the wiring and it's correct. it doesnt matter which cables go to which plug as long as the plug is terminated in the correct igniter terminal (or whatever that's called..) correct?

the plug's are numberd on each igniter so that's how im running the wires. everything is seated correctly so im totally stumped at this point.

one other thing i did: i pulled off the airbox and cleaned out the throttle body and squirted a bunch of carb clearner down the IAC hole in the bore..dont think this should have hurt anything but wanted to throw it out there in interest of completeness. thx again
