starting problems

edit: nvm car started now

hey guys,

sorry its me again with another problem. i appreciate you guys' help

5s-fe 4AT

when i turn my key to start the engine, the starter motor turns the engine. first few times the engine wont turn over. after that i just kept the gas pedal on the floor and tried to crank the engine again. the first few times it didn't turn over but eventually it turned over and reved up so i let go of the gas pedal. the rpms dropped down to 0. i started it again without pressing the gas pedal and the engine cranked over and the rpm jumped up a bit like it usually does so i let go of the key and then the rpm dropped to 0.

i haven't done anything to the car the past few days. it was on jackstands for a day because i was trying to spot a leak and it was leaking from the steering pump.

so its not the batter, or the starter motor. something with fuel or spark ? what should i check first ? =\

some more information: the engine blew so i had someone swap another 5s. after the swap, the car vibrates really hard. the idle is at 800 with everything off but drops to 650 when the ac is turned on but jumps back up to 750 after a while

oh wait my mum just went out and the car started fine. wtf. fml.

thanks a lot,
d

I've had the same problem after the car sits for a day or two. I haven't investigated yet but I suspect gas is draining back into the tank. Once car starts and runs it will restart instantly. Overnight sitting has not brought this problem on yet. I'd not worry too much but the cure may be a new fuel pump as there is probably a check valve (anti-drainback) in the fuel pump that is leaking.

Your Fuel Pressure regulator could be faulty.

have you tried cycling the key on off on off on off on, then start? (waiting a few seconds in between for pump to prime the fuel rail)
