Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
First off I have a 1998 Toyota camry and I'm kind of confused about what o-rings and grommeits go where on the injector.... AutoZone and advanced auto have both 4 O-rings in a set and 2 grommits in a set so i would need 2 sets....the O-rings go on the bottom of the injector right? And the Gromitt goes on top near the fuel rail right? So I'll need 4 oRings and 4 gromittes right? 4+4=8 do I have this right? I'm asking because 2 of my injectors are leaking because the top part is old would be my guess....... any other suggestions
Okay there are 4 o rings, 4 grommets, but what are isolators on the injector? Are they big? And the auto store sells them too right? And is there really any other way of cleaning them other then some tool? Like sitting them in some carb cleaning fram
.
Below is an illustration. To my knowledge, Parts stores do not carry the insulator, and not even sure about the grommet and O rings. As far as cleaning them, have you done an Pressurized injector service? If not, I would recomend trying that second. The first thing I'd try is Toyota's EFI Tank Additive(00289-EF100). The way to use this is you put it in a 1/2 tank of gas and use that gas up in 7 days or less. If you leave it in longer, it can eat away at the hoses. If your injectors have some real bad carbon build up, I would put this in at around a 1/4 tank and be sure to burn the rest of that fuel up as soon as possible, i.e if you have a trip that would take that long to burn it up. For best results, I'd use it while on the Freeway or Expressway. Take a Sunday Drive, etc. Under this concentrated mixture, it may loosen up some carbon build up. It may not get it all, but it will open the injectors up more.
I did this a number of years back with a Toyota 4x4 and worked great.
If you still have problems after these two suggestions, then you'll have to do your best to remove and clean the injectors. If you do remove the injectors, you'll want to replace the O rings, grommets, and insulators.
Thank you verY much!!! AutoZone has 4 O-rings for 4.25$ and gomittes 3$ each and I called my local Toyota they have 10 insulators for 4$ each and Toyota EFI additive for 9.60$ and should I run the Toyota EFI after I fix the gas leak? And redo everything? Or before?
I'd have to check, but I'm sure I can do just about the same if not better for OEM and certainly can beat your local dealer.
As far as the fuel leak, If it is coming from the injectors, I'd take care of that first. In fact, I'd take care of any fuel leak first then move on to cleaning the injectors. Im not sure if your leak is injector related, if so, you may have to go straight to cleaning the injectors while taking care of the leak. I do need further information here.

Well first off. The injector is leaking at the top of 2 injectors, when the Oil was rebuilt I guess they put this gray stuff around the grommitt but the injector it's self is fine, I would order from you bro but I need this stuff Wed. I also wanted to ask you this. Should I buy 2 things of the Toyota EFI and do it before I replaced all the oRings and groommits and then again after? And if the fuel is leaking more than would that make the RPMs higher when driving? Like at 80 I'm pushing 4000rpm it should be 3 1/2 right? Thanks alot man Any other stuff I should order from you
If it were me, I would do this as an all in one job. My reason is this, you have a leak, I would take care of that, and since you have to remove the injectors to do this, I would just remove them, clean them and then put them back. Two problems solved in one step(hopefully). Also, if you do it this way, you shouldn't need any EFI cleaner until a later time.
I am not sure if the leak would cause your RPMs to go higer or not. I do know this, once you clean the injectors, you should get better gas mileage and the vehicle should run more efficient, becuase there will be less spray becuase the injector is opened up, thus not taking as much fuel to do the same job.

Right I know I should clean them when I take it off, but I can't I don't don't how to plus I don't have time to send them to a shop so the EFI is best road to take a think.... So in this case how would you do it, before or after?.... Would it really hurt to do both?
Are you then just going to replace the the O rings, grommets, and insulators, then I would say after, that way the injector cleaner won't leak and possibly do any harm to the grey stuff on the seal, etc.

Yes I'm just going to replace those 3 things, because it's leaking at the top of the injectors and when they redone the motor they did not replac these so, good I'll do it after
If the injectors are like the ones on my 95, they have 2 o-rings. An upper that is larger and a lower one that is smaller. There is one grommet on the bottom and the insulator on top. I just replaced mine. Advance auto had to order them direct and its cost ran about six bucks an injector. The only thing they had in stock was a set of four o-rings that went around the lower section.
