96 5s 5spd swap into a 93 5s Auto

Hey guys

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the issues I would have with swapping a 96 5s w/ a 5spd into a 93 that had a 5s w/ an auto...

Would I be better off just switching the tranny or should I switch the engine as well...Also would there be any issues going from OBDI to OBDII...

I didnt end up getting the Black Coupe from Maine because the asshat didnt make sure the car was ready to be driven 3 hours back to Mass....I went all the way up there, drove the car away only to find that 2 miles down the road the car died because of bad spark plug wires....
and of course when youre in HICKSVILLE Maine there are no parts stores or anything around...I almost killed the kid for waisting my damn time...

Anyways...I am looking to swap my crashed coupes 5spd tranny into my Grammy Camry...

Any advice?

TIA

You can probably survive with the auto harness...and some creative wiring...

The only wires on the 5 speed that I can think of are the reverse light switch, and grounding bolts. There's some sensor in the back....don't know what that's for though...

You can fool the ECU. Or just try and find one from a 5 speed 93.

I dunno. I did my swap the right way. But most people just wire it up so make the ECU think it's still an automatic... Search for it, I know I saw it around somewhere when I did my swap...

You have to trick the automatic ecu into seeing the shift solenoids, IIRC. Just some resistors and whatnot. Check out lemegacool's swap.

EDIT BELOW:

Manual :

a 5-speed Transmission will bolt up no problem

AUTOMATIC:

The 95 transmission will NOT work in a 93. I promise.

The 92-93 Transmissions have two speed sensors.

The 95 does not.

I just got finished changing a transmission from the XLE I just bought with the same problem. It bolts up fine, but the electronics are completely different in the way the transmission works.

If you get it hooked up, expect it to not shift through 1st - 3rd, and only go into overdrive. After about 10 minutes of driving the O/D light will start to flash.

======

The ONLY way this will work is if you swap the engine harness / ECU over to the 95 for automatic. There you may run into wiring issues.

Like i said, the 5-speed will bolt right up. Just make sure you have linkage, Pedal assembly and Slave cylinder, and ECU on hand.

You may want to get a different ECU from a pre OBDII car as well. There isnt any hook ups on the transmission besides the Speed Sensor, so I would put a 94 or 95 5-speed ECU in there so it works all your sensors correctly. Getting into OBDII you may see some issues

Got to thinking about it .. there is one more electronic switch on the 5spd. The reverse switch. The speed sensor and reverse switch will hook right up though
