3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Be careful. The number on the side of the tire is usually only the MAX psi that the tire should be inflated to. You're actually supposed to go with what the car manufacturer recommends over what the tire company recommends.
Anyways, I'd feel moore comfortable with 29 psi. Not that 3 psi will really make a huge difference.

MANY different schools of thought here...personally I run 39 PSI and check it often enough for temperature fluctuations like Mr Perkins stated earlier. I like a little less rolling resistance and the feedback from the road especially with no P/S, but this is just me - it's not high enough to be a problem in the rain, either.
I have NEVER gone with what the manufactuer states simply because tires change over the years - although only slightly - while the car remains the same. Different strokes for different folks, but even if you went 26 or 29 all the way around it wouldn't be detrimental at all to anything, just a little less throttle response and slightly worse MPG - that's about it

I was sitting here thinking about this.... isn't the OEM tire pressure as recommended by Toyota about 35 psi? I could have SWORN I ran my tires in the 30s.

Working at a tire shop most of the toyota cars are asking for 30-32psi. its based more on load then anything from what I recall at school. more load that the tire has the more the tire needs to be inflated. good rule is run it as high as tire says for gas mileage till its to rough of ride and drop till its to your liking. I have 40psi in my winters that are stock and 36psi in 17'' summers

If it wont go make it go.
Stef, that's fine. Just on the higher end of the scale. Make sure your not exceeding the max pressure on the tire sidewall though.

I can still read that label in my Camry, but the pressures are a little different; V6 Vs I4?? It says to run 26 psi with "vehicle load up to 4 occupants". And below that it says to run 32 psi at max capacity, which that label says is 900 lbs. With my pals, that's about the same as "4 occupants"!!! So I run it at 30 psi.
Edit:
Running 30 psi (most of the time, anyway, I'm not super great at checking 'em as often as they need), the Camry's tires wear out uniformly, edge-to-edge.

Reason: Added even wear comment
those manufacturer (manual) tire pressure recommendations are junk. mine says to run 29psi all around on both solara i4 and v6 IIRC, but those cars feel like small tanks with such tire pressure. I usually try keeping pressure at least at 33psi COLD (which gets almost to 40s when HOT).
this thread reminds me, I need to check/inflate all tires before Winter

Tire pressure recommendations are primarily based on the size (width) of the tire and the expected load. Those don't change with time or tire technology. There are secondary effects that do change with the tire construction, which is why there is a range.
The goal is even pressure across the width of the tire tread with a square contact patch.
Many people here are recommending pressures that are too high, some dramatically too high. The only reason for overfilling is if soft sidewalls and high tire loads cause the tread to "roll over", putting wear on the side of the tire. If this regularly happens, you need to buy a stronger tire. And you'll soon get a chance since the tire will wear out faster with overfilling. (Both because the wear will be concentrated in the center, and because the tread blocks won't be able to flex slightly to handle effects such as built-in toe, turning and road crown.)
