Just new at this.When I start my car v-6, it idles at 1500 hundred rpms but won't drop down for 10 mins. or so or until the temp. gauge starts to climb.Toyota says its normal. I beg to differ. Anyone experiance this problem. Only when car is cold. Restart car when still hot and the rpm drops to 900.???

Normal for the ECU to idle the engine higher to have it warm up to operating temperatures faster.

If you are still concerned;
Thermostat may not be fully closed, or at wrong temp. The water temperature sensor resistance and response should be checked out.

normal. in Winter cold mornings I sometimes see initial idle at almost 1,800-2,000rpm then gradual drop as engine warms up over time.

HINT: it will warm up faster if you keep fans and heater OFF. it will warm up even faster if you start driving it gently (no more than 2,500rpm) without using fans and heating.
