3rd Generation Need to identify something in used car

Long story make short: I got this car, 1996 Toyota camry v6 4dr, for free, so no complain then.
This is my first car, and there are lots of stuff related to car I don't know

There is something on the windshield looking like a Remote stater receiver

Under the passenger seat, I find a box. It is hard to take picture at night under the seat, so a video

I don't know the previous owner, right now I have only 3 keys. So, if this is all the components of the remote starter, can I just by the Remote and use it. If yes, how can I know what kind to order?

Thank you for you help

EDIT: nothing under the driver seat

Might just be a different alarm system, might not be remote starter. Check under the drivers seat, is there a box there? If that box is gone, then the box you found under the passenger seat is the security system. The stock one is under the drivers seat. If it's remote start, you'll have to figure out the make and and model and then you'll have to buy a receiver, that is, if its all still in working condition.

Its definitely a receiver for a remote starter on the windshield. typically a normal installation for a remote starter is behind the dashboard so I dont think what your seeing under the seat is a remote starter. Could be.

Pull it out and check it out. Look for a model number or part number. Looks to me like an amplifier for the sound system though

There is nothing under the driver seat.

So if this is a security system, how does it work? I didn't see anything happen no matter how I open the door, use the car.

Thank

Normally Remote start systems are wired UNDER the DASHBOARD. Remove the knee bolster and Presto I bet its tied up there

You need to visually look at whatever remote starter is installed to determine what remote you will need

So, to know for sure what it is is to find the model or part number, or remove the knee bolster and Presto to take a clearly lock the wired under the dashboard?

I will try it when I have time.

Thank

That looks almost exactly like the antenna for the Ultra Start remote starter I installed on my wife's Camry. The antenna can be seen in the last picture at the bottom of this tutorial.

No just remove the Knee Bolster .. (The presto is like me saying , "There Ya Go"). There are four 10mm bolts and 3 phillips head screws holding it in place.

The thing under your passenger seat is your factory Toyota amplifier I'm guessing you have premium sound.

I agree with Ameer and Joe. I realized that when I was making coffee a few minutes ago.

As for that antenna thing... aftermarket security? I'd remove the interior a-pillar trim and see if you can't follow the wires going to that antenna. God knows where they put an aftermarket brain.

Just open up the knee bolster, here are what I got

In the first picture, should I connect the harness to the black box to see what will happen?

If this is really the remote stater, should I just buy the remote according to the model number to try this out? If yes, where can I buy only the remote?

Thank

Ebay is normally a good place to start. You can find just about anything there. Im not 100% sure if its just as easy as that tho. The remote should have some sort of frequency that is specific to your car. You may need to contact the company it came from they could probably guide you in the right direction.

DO NOT PLUG IT IN. You need to check the ignition harness first or you may fry the unit. IF this unit has a starter kill, one of the wires was probably cut, then re attached when the remotes were lost. Take a look:

edit: This isn't for your alarm... and the colors may be completely different. But it gives you an idea of whats up with a remote starter install.
