Bad steering rack?

I took my 97 in today to get an alignment. I also asked them to see if they could find the ps fluid leak ive been looking for but couldnt find. According to them, its my rack leaking and it needs to be replaced. I dont know much about r&P steering systems, but im not willing to pay them almost 700 bucks to do it. its leaking about a cup every couple weeks. they also said when they start to leak, they go pretty quick, and no long trips, etc. i'd like to wait till spring to tackle this thing.

So what are my options here? Could death be imminent?

I would DIY if the rack is truely bad. You can rebuild the rack easily I wouldnt sweat it too bad. Just make sure it has fluid all the time. Theres a DIY on rebuilding the rack on here
