If you can do a complete timing job, and can deal with the possibly rust-seized exhaust bolts and remove the exhaust pipe, then you should be able to DIY the pump.

When you go in there, change the water pump and all the seals too (cam, crank, oil pump).

Why do you think it's the oil pump?

i've changed the oil filter and replaced the oil pan gasket and it leaked after that still, upon further investigation the oil is coming downward on the passenger side, of the engine, and i'm assuming oil leaking from the pan doesn't go up that high...

so yeah all that stuff you said, i'm pretty novice so getting involved with the timing... it's a little more important to trust myself with it yet. i can't really afford to not have a car for too long and if i did all that stuff i'd be pretty sluggish about it lol.

There are lots of DIY for timing change. Its a fairly straight setup, and the nice thing is if you get it wrong you just have to release the pressure and re-set the timing until you get it correct.

If you change the seals or gaskets on the oil pump, you might as well change the cam seal, tensioner, tensioner-spring, water pump, and timing belt if you haven't replaced them in a while.

You have to remove the timing belt anyways.. If you are going to re-use the timing belt make sure that you buy a Paint marker and mark on the Cam Pulley and Crank pulley and the belt itself where the belt sits. You have to re-install an old belt in the exact location it came off.

Is the engine the 5SFE? or the six cylinder
Support the engine from above....(the oil pan will come off to replace the oil pump)
To remove the pump, the timing belt must come off.
I would install a new timing belt, tensioners/spring, and idler pulley..
new water pump too.
Then the oil pan.
I recommend replacing all seals

Also take a mirror and flashlight and check the firewall side of the engine. Oil on these engines like to leak from the valve cover gasket area and down.

Check the PCV valve and grommet as well. If the crankcase doesn't have a slight vacuum then oil can leak more easily. Be careful, the grommet hardens with age and can break apart when you try to remove it. So use pliers, flat screwdriver and even a hook tool to help.

One step at a time. You'll be an expert in no time. There are plenty of DIYs and people willing to help here.

If you can change oil and pan gasket, coolant and ATF/strainer should be within your range too. Brake pads and rotors any time soon?

Just making sure. Is the oil pump inside the oil pan or near it? I saw a DIY video on a 5SFE and he didn't remove the oil pan to change the oil pump and gasket.

The 5SFE oil pump is similar to a water pump, it bolts to the pump case. But the pump case is bolted to the block and part of it sits on the oil pan like V6 pumps.

When buying a 5SFE oil pump, this is what ships:
