Lightbulb Winter Camry Tips

Hey guys, winter is here and so is the cold temperatures. For a lot of people, they do not have the accommodations such as a heated garage... Or a Garage for that matter. Here are a couple tips for maintaining your camry during the winter months.

#1 TIP:

WASH YOUR CAR!!!

Make sure to keep the wheel arches and undercarriage cleaned off during the winter. These cars are ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE in the winter time as far as rust. If you go to the car wash once or twice a week, you can save your vehicle for many many more miles!

Heres an example of a vehicle that was never washed, and never undercoated besides factory job:

#2 TIP

Check your Fluids EVERY TIME you want to start your vehicle.

Winter is extremely harsh on our camrys. Its much more important to check your oil level, transmission level, and coolant level EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! This will give you a chance to check for leaks while your checking your fluids. If one of your fluids are low, top it off and make sure to check for leaks. It sucks in the winter, but its very important. These 5sfes' HATE being low on oil. Also make sure to check the condition of belts, and look for broken suspension parts or steering parts.

#3 TIP

CHANGE YOUR OIL / TRANS FLUID ON THE REGULAR INTERVAL

This should actually be #1 , but some people just think that putting gas in there car is a great way to maintain your vehicle. This is NOT True at all. You should not stop changing your oil in your intervals just because its winter time. This is actually the best time to change your oil, because the conditions are much more harsh than the winter time. If you dont change your oil, the detergent in the oil will break down, and in-turn you will develop sludge in the motor.

Heres a picture of major sludge build up:

#4 TIP

MAKE SURE YOUR TIRES ARE GOOD!

NO-Duh tip here, but some dont run with good tires and this is how accidents happen. Make sure you have enough tread (Meat) on your tires before winter gets too bad.

#5 TIP

HAVE A ROAD SIDE EMERGENCY KIT ON HAND

Anything can happen to leave you stranded on the side of the road at any time. If you have a couple warm blankets, emergency kit with road flares or emergency triangles, Bandaides, flash light, Water Bottles, Jumper cables, Tool kit (metric sockets and screw drivers), Fuses, Electrical tape, Fix-a-Flat and a cell phone.. You may also want to consider getting tire chains, a small shovel, and possibly carry a hand gun with you in case someone tries to take advantage of you. You will be ready for the harsh conditions and being stranded on the side of the road.

A company called Lifegear makes a backpack that has everything you need included. It comes with a respirator mask, multifunction tool, thermal blanket, hygiene kit, first aid kit, a 3-day emergency supply of food and water, etc. It costs $100 and you can order it online from their website.

#6 TIP

SLOW DOWN!!

So many people think that because these camrys are Front Wheel drive, they can just cruise through the snow. More so with 4wd drivers, but FWD Drivers are about just as bad. Test the roads, test your braking if you slide when you pump your brake slow down!! Is it really worth speeding when your traveling in a 3,000LB. hunk of metal?

I agree with everything except checking your fluids every time you start your vehicle! That is so crazy unless you have a known leak of sorts! Check fluids at every tank of gas is sufficient enough!!! Also to carry a handgun is over the top unless you have the proper license to carry a concealed weapon which are hard to get!!! Especially if you go from state to state!!!!

Also, be VERY careful opening the doors when there is ice or frost on the car. The door handles are plastic and take next to nothing to break off.

Well if you have a Commercial Drivers Liscense, you know whats up with checking fluids and suspension / steering parts. Your supposed to do it EVERY time you go to start the vehicle. I just continue this for my own vehicle too. Takes an extra 10 seconds, but well worth it.

Carrying a hand gun is more for the women out there. Theres a lot of Creepers out there who would love to "Help" a poor stranded lady out there. A Tazer gun would be sufficient too. Also yes, Make sure you have the proper permits to carry one. Hand gun permits are easy to get as long as you do not have any Felonies.

Its really quite simple though, you can fill out the following form for pennsylvania:

Virginia = easy to get a CWP. But I'd rather spend the money on a camry+mods than a gun. Even living in Richmond (was the #3 city for murders/year in the 90s).

You can keep the doors from freezing shut by coating the rubber seals around the doors with silicone spray.

Love Silicone Spray. And those of you in SUPER COLD climates... don't forget a lighter to heat up your key if your lock cylinders freeze.

That works really good. If you cant get it all the way thawed out though, theres a really neat gadget called a Hot Keylock De-icer that works pretty good too. its about $5.00 for it

Any recommendations for snow tires? I have shitty michelin tires on the front and some other garbage on the back lol. I'd like to get a good pair of tires just for winter...hopefully.

I run Goodyear Ultra Grip on the fronts in winter. I have two rims with snow tires on it just sitting in my garage if your looking for winter tires or just rims to mount new tires. The snow tires have a little grip on them (in my garage) but they are almost gone. PM me if your interested
