Brake Upgrade - '93 3VZ-FE

Hey all! I have a few questions...Just picked up the Camry for $500 with a blown head gasket. Replaced the gaskets and got the heads milled, runs like a champ now. VERY clean brown cloth interior, minor car cancer, no body damage.

Although, I'm coming from a '93 Mazda MX-6 LS w/'07 Mazda6 Front/Rear calipers/rotors/pads, and going to this car, the brakes feel like shit. I read up about some brake upgrades, and one involves the dual pot calipers from the '94+ V6 with ABS. That's something I'm definitely interested in. All I need for that are the Calipers w/Brackets, Rotors, and Pads right? And everything is bolt-on? Is the Master Cylinder on the '94 different than the '93, and if so, is that bolt on as well?

Now as for the rears, it says I need the WHOLE setup back there, e-brake cables, brackets, backing plates, calipers from the LS400. I need the cables too even if I have disc brakes right now? Are the LS400 cables longer or something?

Sorry for all of the questions, I searched for a little bit and didn't find much information.

Don't worry about the master cylinder. The one you have now is fine. Anyways... front brakes. The only thing you'll need is the caliper and caliper brackets. Maybe not even the caliper brackets. The rotors are the same for a non-ABS V6 and ABS equipped V6. The pads MIGHT be the same too. I need to get on rockauto.com and double check though.

Well, the LS400 calipers are for the FRONT. Sooo, don't worry about them for the rear. They're the same as ABS-equipped V6 camrys. Now.... for the rear. The only upgrade you could do would be to switch to either avalon or es300/camry wagon rear rotors + calipers. The rotors are about 3/4" bigger. For that, you need 15" wheels (which you probably already have since you have a V6), the calipers, caliper brackets, rotors, backing plates. E-brake cables (attached to the backing plates)... i'm not sure about. They MIGHT be the same.

No problem, there's a lot of info and it can get confusing. ALSO: check the DIY sticky on the main page... lots of good info in there about this swap. Read up!

Yeah, I never did the ES300 front caliper swap for my Camry. I just tried the LS400 caliper and they fit right on. They should actually work with your setup and should be a direct bolt on. You could always get new calipers instead of used ones for even better pedal feel.

LS400 Brakes on a Gen3/4? Done....
