3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Suddenly today when i drove i noticed that the very left bottom of my camry 96's dashboard showed a lil icon looked like the "rear lights" and it stayed on like that no matter what did (yesterday was fine).
Where can i find these information and what happened to my rear lights when it shows up but when i checked all signal lights and head/rear lights are fine?
That light is an indication that one of your taillights are not working properly.
Turn the key on to the "ON" position (without starting it) And tap your brakes and see if the light goes on. If it does, its a brake bulb thats bad.
If it doesn't turn on, the 92-96 camry had a problem (Recall) where the brake bulb Pigtail (Harness connector) Would create too much resistance (Heat) and actually get deformed making a bad connection. This in time would cause it to loose connection to the bulb itself and the indicator light would turn on.
One other thing you could try to do is have a helper hold the brake pedal for you and pop the trunk and do a wiggle test
( Grab the harness that runs to your taillights and shake the wires around and see if the light comes on)
If the light does turn on while shaking the harness, you have a wiring issue and need to repair / replace the harness

Thankyou so much for a very clear explaination
I have another 2 questions would want to ask you if ya dont mind.
I've test all of the FRONT (Left/right(signal) / Head lights) Are FINE as well as REAR (Left/right(signal) / Tail lights) Are FINE
When i Stepped on the break the TailLight Lights up Normally nothing have changed but i've noticed this
My camry's rear signal lights've had 2 sets of bulbs
the 1st set didn't work when i tried to SIGNAL
but the 2nd set still doin its job... so is it dangerous with the 2nd set only? when driving so i dont have to fix it
here is the pix
Since the below set still working as i turn. Do you think i shud get the 1st pair fixed?
If a bulb is getting ready to burn out, the dash board light can come on. Why? A bulb getting ready to burn out has higher resistance, and this triggers the dashboard light.

Those top lights in the front are sidemarkers only. It takes a 194 single filament bulb and will not blink when signaling. It is basically just a park light.
