Oh no! speedometer and RPM acting weird!

Last month I was driving and WHILE I was driving the speedometer dropped to 0. I was confused, but then it went back up with no noticeable change to the RPM.

Fast forward 2,000 miles later...I'm driving and the speedometer drops to 0, then goes back to 60 and the RPM seems to jump a bit as well. It seems to be revving thinking the car is at 0 mph. I turned the overdrive off to see if that would help, but I didn't want to leave it on so turned it off. It did it again...switched overdrive on and off. This happened this morning.

I have no idea what it is....

Look down there at your speed sensor connector on top of the diff. They loose connection due to being soaked in oil or corrosion. You should be getting a code. P0500
Disconnect it. Make sure it's clean and tight.

Bingo! And whenever I change the diff. fluid its very crudey and gross under there. So, is it accesible from under the hood or would I need to climb underneath and reach over the differential?

well, I looked on **********s and its not really showing where the sensor is located or what it looks like.

the speed sensor is right on the top back side of the transmission. If you look underneath the heater hoses you should be able to see it with the airbox / piping removed
