My radio is starting to give trouble on my 1994 Camry, so I would like to change it. What do I need to know in buying a new radio? Is the size standard? Are the brackets standard? Is there a specific radio people like? It does not have to be fancy, because I use it mostly for talk radio.
I've received great customer service and good deals at Crutchfield.com. They have the wire adapters, faceplates and detailed instructions needed for a factory install.
I've had good luck and gotten awesome deals at Crutchfield.com. They have the wire adapters and faceplates needed for a factory install.
Good Luck!
+1 on Crutchfield. It's a lot easier to buy from them than to hunt around forever in walmart trying to find the right wiring adapters. Been there, done that.

^ They're good. Especially when you consider that your getting EVERYTHING you need for an install (wiring harness, instructions, etc). Their selection is also great.... everything from high end down to basic systems.

if u go aftermarket, u will use the stock brackets.
however u have to make a custom harness. the half of the harness that connects to the aftermarket radio will b supplied w the radio. the half that connects to the factory harness u will have to buy. each half of the two harness will have free wires comming off. u have to connect the two halves together either by soldering or quick connects. make sure u have the corrwct wires connectee. there will b insyructions tellin u what each wire does so u wont mess up.
I'd say if you're going aftermarket.. go with crutchfield as the others have said. You don't want to skimp out on a quality harness like I did.. I ended up spending two hours soldering old wires to new ones.. only to mess up two in the end and having a huge troubleshooting before i finally got it right
I installed a BLaupunkt in mine a few weeks ago. Had to splice the harness, works great, i dig the input jack too. I drilled a hole in trhe back of the tray at the bottom, running an ipod hookup through there. Works awesome, just had to trim the trim(lol) a little, and the door on the tray.
Walmart sounds like a good idea. I will try there first.
A yr ago I was tired of my old Toyota radio-cassette player, and I bought on holidays one at walmart: radio and cd player. It fits perfectly and after a year is working just fine.
