1992 Toyota Camry still won't start after new battery?

1992 Toyota Camry does not start with new battery but the belts are turning slowly?

My Camry ended up dying completely while driving the other day and I could not start it at all. It would just click when I tried to start it. I tried to jump start it but it still didn't start. So I went and bought a new battery, since the old one was no good, for it today and now the clicking went away, and now the accessory belts are turning (had someone look while I tried to start it) but it does not start. Any ideas?

sounds like your timing belt broke.

pull your top timing cover off and see if the belt is broken

::: Actually ::::

Edit:
Check the compression first before tearing into it

Make sure your getting a spark .. Pull a spark plug out and confirm while its cranking your getting an arc

=======

Question:

Is it cranking normally ? or does it sound different while your trying to start it ?

did you test the battery before determining it was bad?

it could be a multitude of things. first three to check are air, spark and fuel. take off the intake and try starting the car while pumping on the gas pedal. if still no attempt at running, pull a spark plug and see if there is spark when you crank the engine (have someone ground the spark plug when trying). if those two things check out, get some starter spray and spray some in the intake while cranking.

one of these things should shed some light on the issue.

I took it to AutoZone and they said it was bad, hence I got a new battery.

How would you ground the spark plug?

So I took a peek under the timing belt cover and saw only the teeth that the timing belt is supposed to sit on top of. Conclusion: broken timing belt. Strange as I just got the timing belt job done a couple of months ago. Must be because I used an eBay timing belt. Any recommendations on where I can get a good, well known timing belt that other Camry owners use?

yay i was right . Lol.

I purchase my belts from Advanced Auto.

Did you happen to change the waterpump while you were in there?? If not, i bet the waterpump seized up and caused your belt to break.

Another possibility could be if you had a leaky cam or crank seal, the oil will deteriorate the belt at a fast rate

I would trust a Gates timing belt component kit on my engine.

Nvm. Just found out that the timing belt was not changed out when the water pump was replaced. We just used the old one.

If in the future you have problems as well with your battery, there are some little chargers not expensive in the market; even Harbor Freight has one for less than 30 dollars. It saves you a headache sometimes when you have no second car or somebody close for help.

next time try this one, it's all OEM brands and contains anything you can think of replacing while there:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Fits-...Q5fAccessories

not sure if it includes all gaskets (WP, thermostat, etc.) but I think it should for this price.

another option is an Aisin timing kit (less components) from Rockauto.com

Gates timing belt is a good choice if that is the only thing you want to replace (a cheap fix). so your water pump is new? it's supposed to be replaced with the timing belt, at least it's recommended on 4 cylinder model.

try doing a little CSI after you open the timing cover up and see what could have caused the belt to snap. it might have been seized water pump or one of idlers stuck. Timing belts are not really supposed to snap just like that in 6 months... unless they were a Shitco brand.
