Transmission won't shift when cold.

I own a 95 Camry LEV6. The transmission refuses to shift out of second until the engine temperature gauge reaches the lowest line then everything's fine. It's not a big issue for me as I usually let my car warm up long enough so that when I reach the main road the problem is gone though in the winter months this process takes a little longer. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Yes its normal, I usually let my car warm up to that first line, and the transmission will shift into third gear.

I've noticed if you drive to 70 km/h or more, it will shift regardless of temperature

Check the ATF level. Use a synthetic.

Delayed shifting when cold is normal. Just step on the gas some more and it will up-shift a little later when you're going a bit faster.

I would not say stuck in 1st is normal. How are you suppose to pull onto a highway?
