Cold Weather Package for '98 Camry

Hey guys,

New poster on here. I need to replace the starter in my '98 Camry I4. I plan to buy a rebuilt unit from RockAuto.com, but there seems to be one standard version of the starter, and one version for Camrys with the "Cold Weather Package". I'm pretty sure I don't have it, since I assume it would include an engine block heater, which I don't have. Does anyone know how I can tell if I have this option? I just don't want to end up with the wrong starter.

Welcome. Both will work and fit. Std is 1.2v and the cold wx is 1.4V. I would get the 1.4V. What's wrong with the starter? There are plenty of how to starter rebuild threads on this site. Here's a link Starter Solenoid Contacts Replacement DIY (2000 I4)

Try Toyotapartsman on this site for a price quote on a Denso. He gives 30% discount. Here is his signature, he is a site sponsor. __________________

Thanks for the help. I'm fairly certain that the solenoid contacts are just worn out, but it's actually my father-in-law's car, and when I tried explaining this to him, he said that he doesn't want to take a chance that there could be some other problem with the starter. It's his money, so if he insists on a whole starter, that's what I'm going to get him.

I went ahead and ordered the Denso rebuilt unit from RockAuto.com with 2-day shipping. $183 shipped plus $34 core.

Anyone got torque values for the starter bolts? Camrystuff.com no longer works, so I don't have access to the repair manual.

Are you talking about for the solenoid cover, or the main starter bolts? 52 in.-lbf doesn't seem right for the main bolts holding the starter in.

For gen 4 starter bolts to hold it to the transmission is : Torque: 37 N·m (380 kgf·cm, 27 ft·lbf)

The 52 in-lb was for the long skinny bolts that holds the cover on the starter solenoid.
