3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Thinking how cool it would be to have a miniature scale model car of the 92-96 camry?
Think again.. lol. I was looking around on the internet and couldn't find one so I contacted a custom model creator and got this email back:
Brandon,
If you use our standard hourly rate, and an estimated time to scratchbuild this car model for you (probably about two weeks) . . . you most likely could buy a 95 Camry for less . . . . I would check on ebay “toys and hobbies” and see if there isn’t something there that would work for you.
I responded:
Alright. I've checked all over the internet. The only models available are the newer Camrys. and older camrys. for some reason they skipped over the 92-96. I was thinking about trying to get one custom made, but if its going to cost more than $1500.00 then I will try elsewhere. Thanks for your quick response,
Brandon
He responded:
Brandon,
Yes, sorry, it would cost considerably more than $1500, our rate is $100/hour and it would probably take about two weeks to scratchbuild this car model, if we could get 3D CAD data . . . without that, it would be even worse, there are a lot of compound curves and such that make modeling cars difficult without good computer files. I wish you luck with your search.
4th gens are out there.... but very rare. 3rd gens.... never seen them.

welcome to the world of manufacturing. i work for an aluminum manufacturing company and every so often we get a request for just 1 item that is an odd shape and uses tooling we dont have. the cost for 1 or 1000 would be about the same because of the tooling required.
for the 8-10 grand it would cost for a custom made camry, they can probably crank them out after that for not much money. buy 300 camrys and you can be the only seller of them in the world! sell each one for $80 and you have a potential of profiting $14 grand! (assuming you find 300 buyers)
