2001 4 cyl tranny/engine swap question

I own a 2001 4 cylinder camry with roughly 94,000 miles. Bought it off a one owner and it runs great. The problem is that two days ago I had a little accident and slammed into a culvert at 40 m.p.h. doing quite some cosmetic damage and bending my frame.

The engine and transmission received no damage, but I don't want to imagine the costs to repair the frame and all the panels so I am going to drop them in another camry body. My question is which models of camry could I drop the engine and transmission into relatively easy without modifications? Is it just the '96 - '01 model years or would it be easy enough to throw them in others as well?

Easiest will be 97-01. That will be a direct swap with no thinking needed.

You could drop it into a 92-96 as well, but the differences in ECU's might cause troubles.

I personally would get another 97-01 camry if I were you, I just like them better.

Another option is a Toyota Solara.

you have to take the wiring harness from the solara and put it on the camry engine...they aren't the same. Not that hard a job, but a job best done with both engines out...

Otherwise, the engine and trans will fit without any mods to the engine mounts, or engine bay.
