I have an odd question for you guys... I swapped out all my instrument cluster light bulbs with blue bulbs a while back. It looked great for a few months, now they have started to discolor and are looking green... which means it looks the same as it did before I messed with them...
I put a 12" blue LED strip in my trunk in place of the original dome light, but it came in a 2 pack. I know to do it right I should put led bulbs in all the holes in the cluster, but this strip is very bright (and free because I already have it). If I took all 5 or 6 however many there are bulbs out, and installed this strip behind the cluster running behind all the holes, do you think it would be bright enough to light the display? I guess my question is, has anyone tried lighting behind the cluster without using the bulb sockets? I'm thinking about removing the cluster and test fitting it in the garage to see.
If it won't work I think I'm going to wire it into the center console and have it light up the din under the cd player or the pocket under the cup holder through the dimmer switch.
I don't think it'll light up well.. the hole where the bulbs go in aren't that big, and its because the bulb is INSIDE that hole, that the light spread is that great. You can't get great light spread with a light strip that isn't inside the space. Just my 2 cents.
Yea that's what im worried about. I should stop being cheap and buy led bulbs. I'm going to toy around with different placements for the strip, and maybe I'll throw up some pictures if I find something that looks good.
I'm not a fan of reverse glows. I haven't seen one I like for the camry yet. They all look too cheesy. I haven't had a chance to try the lighting yet with all the christmas stuff going on. I'll get to it this week and snap some pictures

I installed a LED pad in my trunk and it lights up brighter than the wedge bulb. It's a 24-LED pad with an adapter. Maybe you need to place it at a certain location in your trunk to have it at it's fullest dispersion.
^ I know, but I assume you were talking about my comment on my trunk lighting. Guess I wasn't clear enough but I did mean he probably needs to put it at a spot in the cluster where the LED light will give out a better dispersion. I had to tape/foil some gaps in the cluster to make sure no light gets out.
Yea I'm starting on it tonight/tomorrow as I finally have a day off. haha Yea I think my comment about having them in my trunk threw you off too. My trunk looks about that bright too. I did it to accent my sound system. I put chrome basketed subs in, there's a picture of it in a thread somewhere on here.
I like the foil idea, I saw someone else doing that when they modified their gauges so I'm hitting the dash with led's and aluminum foil after work!
I'm so slacking. The radiator busted in my ranger and since the engine and trans were both getting tempermental, I put the drivetrain on craigslist. Someone has my truck at their shop pulling it right now and it'll get towed back by this weekend ready for my v6 or v8 swap. And I made 150 bucks off the old pwerplant and the guy is pulling it and paying for towing as part of the deal. But all that business has gotten me lazy on my camry. I'm ripping the dash out tonight and I'll take some night shots of the led test. If it doesn't work out I'm going to put regular bulbs in and let it have that redish orange look to it. Anything but green.

dude i bought some leds on ebay for like $1 and it only cost like $.99 to ship them. they worked great, however, there is some kinda connection problem with the thing the bulbs screw in and one stopped lighting up. the bulbs seemed to be of good quality though, and led. that was way cheaper than buying the incandescent ones u buy at advance or autozone.
