Here's a DIY thread showing where it is and how to take it off and clean it.

Edit:
Ooo... wait, that's for the 3VZ engine in the '92 & '93. It's different if yours is a later model. I'm guessing from your username that you've got a '93?

If he has a '93 then it's the 3vz. For USDM cars, 3VZ = 92-93, 1MZ = 94-01. The 1MZ should be similar.

As shown in the picture, the IAC is on the bottom of the TB for the 1mz. In the DIY, the IAC is shown on the back side of the plenum for the 3vz.

for those who are familiar with the 3vz....once i take off the two bolts....do i just clean off the part leading to the tb and the back side of the iac...or do i have to actually take off the three screws on the iac and clean in the inside of it?? which i think is the rotor??..

i know this sounds confusing but if you have the 3vz then you'll know what im talking about...

When I did mine, I took it apart far enough to get the center part out (no idea what that's called). It's been quite a while, but I *think* those three screws and the cap need to come off to do it. There was quite a bit of built-up crap inside there that I couldn't get cleaned out without fully taking it apart. I had to use a plastic scraper to get it off; it was baked-on crusty stuff. No way some solvent or something like that was gonna get it done.

+1 what BMR said. It needs to be completely disassembled to properly clean because of the crap under the rotor (looking into the vents).

Make sure all the connectors and hoses are put back to the correct locations.

Is the rotor in the IAC positioned correctly? I don't think the motor can be mounted if it's not, but just in case.

A clean IAC should make the engine run smoothly and seem to give you a little more power.

Valvoline throttle body cleaner from Autozone.
http://www.valvoline.com/products/br...dy-cleaners/51

or CRC throttle body cleaner. Works but doesn't seem as strong as Valvoline.

Sea Foam Deep Creep (foamy spray) is my favorite for TB & IAC, you can get it from Autozone or Advance Auto as well.

make sure you re-connected all vacuum lines you touched to correct spots.

I'm guessing you used some spray-in TB cleaner?... my guess is that is loosened up some crud that made it's way into the IAC and causing it to have problems in a different way.

As to what solvent to use to clean it when it's disassembled, I didn't use anything on mine. Just a plastic scraper (not metal) to avoid scratching it up and a shop towel to rub it down. It wasn't horribly difficult to get it pristine clean. Maybe 15 minutes worth of picking and wiping at it.

I didn't futz with the leadscrew's grease or put any WD40 in the bearing. Mine was extremely clean in that area. So it didn't seem like a good idea to me to add any grease or put WD40 in the bearing. The only reason to get in there is to get the center rotor/pintle/thingamajig out for cleaning.

Oh, and when you get it all back together, if it's like mine it won't start or idle at all unless given some throttle. Mine took about 6 restarting cycles before the system had recalibrated itself. It idles perfectly ever since.
