4th Generation Quick Heater Hose question.

Car: 2000 Camry LE, 5S-FE

One of my heater hose has a small crack in it and seeping (coolant?). There is a pair of hoses connected to the firewall, next to the heater core. The top one is cracked.

Is there any specify reason that the hose is U-shaped?
Can I just go to any autoparts store and ask for a heater hose?
Is there anything I should be caution about? (keep the coolant away from paint/animals and recycle it)
It seems like I'll lose some liquid, should I just flush the coolant system too? And should I use Red or Pink Toyota Life Long coolant?

Thanks

2000 Camry takes the Red coolant with distilled water. The iron block won't be protected by the pink coolant. Besides the 5-year life the pink IMO is an inferior coolant. It's not even GM Dexcool grade in properly designed cooling systems.

You can buy these molded hoses cheap at your local NAPA. Even cheaper at rockauto.com (but you don't have time). NAPA carries Gates hoses. Excellent stuff.

Use old newspaper to guide spilled coolant into a catch pan.
