Cruise control

First off I searched and read many threads about this but didnt find anything exactly like my problem... I have a 96 4 cyl that I've owned for about 2 months. Cruise has not worked sense i bought it. The cruise lights up when powered on but nouthing happens when set. I read some threads where this was happening but cruise light would flash when trying to set... That is not the case here. Nouthing at all happens

It'll be tough diagnosing without a trouble code to guide you. You're correct about cruise light flashing if there is a stored code, but I'd check anyway. Use jumper wire on Tc and E1 of data link connector (DS under dash) and watch for flash of cruise light. If no DTC then it's old fashioned circuit checks of the components for which you'll need a manual. My FSM says no cruise with no DTC indicates cruise ECU power source or cruise ECU, but factory manuals are not known for thinking outside the box. I'd check the cruise switch, stop light cancel (which may be shorted) and power to the actuator. It may help if you can replace the cruise ECU with known good one to see if it is the ECU.

Thank you for the ideas, i will check for codes a.s.a.p. Now as far as this "stop light cancel" I have a brake light warning light (i think it's called) glowing in my cluster but all lights work. So you think those could be connected??

Possible? I'd get that fixed first, always look for simple stuff. If the stop light cancel is stuck on "cancel" then nothing on cruise will work.

Check the stop light switch, it's tied into the cruise control. It may be loose and need adjusting.
