Question 1998 Camry - Power door lock issue

I just replaced the stereo and all four speakers in my wife's Camry and now the door lock button's on both doors no longer function. It's also lost the ability to lock all of the doors using the key (by turning it twice). The door unlock buttons still work along with the window controls.

I had to remove the door panels to install the front speakers but I can't figure out how I caused the lock function to stop working. I removed the driver side door panel a second time and verified that all of the connections are tight. It seems strange that this is happening on just the lock button, but on both doors.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Yea, that's a strange one for sure..........Maybe by a strange coincidence a wire broke in the door boot (i'm guessing the drivers door) and this is affecting one function on both doors. Try holding the lock button down and swinging the door all the way open and all the way closed and see if the locks kick in. Also try holding the lock button down and try squeezing, pushing and pulling the boot between the car body and door to see if the locks kick in. If they do, you have a broken wire inside the boot. Good luck!

Well you were right about the drivers side door. I found the problem. When I was installing the speakers I had to drill new holes and one of the screws I used went into the wiring harness....oops. lol.

At least when I pulled the screw out the wire was no longer shorted to ground and the locks work again.

Thanks for the reply.
