swaping out automatic shifter assemblies?

so i was looking on ebay and saw the floor shifter assembly for a 2002-2006 lexus es300, its not the push button shifter though, u just hit the brake and put it in gear, i dont kno the technical name for that kind of shifter sorry for being dumb.lol anyway, is it possible to put one of those in place of the shifter on my 01 camry? i dont exactly understand how u would go about it or if it would even work. so a yes or no would be awesome, or any input would be appreciated. thanks! oh and while were on this, if it is possible to put one of those in, could u use a triptronic shifter( spelling? or whatever the name is?) like the ones u can shift manually but its still automatic? anyone got any clue on this? thanks~

Yes, you can eliminate the button on the shifter. Take apart your shifter and you'll be able to figure it out.

You've always been able to manually shift camrys. However, DO NOT downshift using this method. The automatics are 4-speeds.

D, O/D ON = Normal... all 4 gears used.
D, O/D OFF = locked into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd MAX.
2 = locked into 1st and 2nd MAX.
L = locked in 1st gear ONLY.

Quick question, but what would be the point of doing this? If you just want to change the look of it, then just change the shifter and not the whole assembly. Changing the whole assembly would be a big PITA, and it wouldn't change the way you shift the car. You'd still have to push the brake in, and you'd still have to move the shifter to the desired gear.

As far as the Triptonic shifter part, that would be a no, unless your car came with it. If not then the answer is no, unless you swapped the entire transmission.

ok i figured the triptronic woudnt work, well its not just looks, i just like the style of that assembly better, no button, and its not just a straight line to go into gear, i just think it looks cool. so how hard do u think it would be changing out the whole assembly?

Triptronic DOES work. You just don't want to down shift manually. Up shifting is fine. Take a look at my previous post.

Ryan... take a look at this. Note that there's no button after modification to pull her out of park. Just step on the brake.

Click on the DIY link I posted. It's 2 screws on the rear of the shifter.

Buddy, there's a cool site called . Also note that I didn't do this mod on my car. That DIY was from another user, so I can't really answer those questions. Here's some google footwork I did for you though.
