I am going to jump off a bridge!! 97 camry kill switch engaged!!
Ok so this is really driving me nuts.....my 97 camry factory alarm which from my research should be the rs3000 has engaged the kill switch and does not let me turn on my car. I bought my car used and the owner did not have the keyless remote, never had this problem the whole 10 years I owned my car. Look I am a girl and I have little car mechanic experience, we changed the seal gasket on the motor, last month, and finally found where a leak was coming from, but I have yet to find out how to disconnect this alarm, and turn it on, and get to the other problems with my car. Considering that I am way under educated in cars, could someone show me where the ecu is for the alarm and or how to disconnect it, so I can get it back on the road.......I would really appreciate pictures, diagrams, drawings, anything that could help me out.
Thank you so much!
If this is an emergency, get off TN and dial 911. Don't jump off a bridge!
Take a look under the DRIVER'S SEAT. The alarm ECU might be there. It's also occasionally underneath the dash board above the pedals. I wish I had a picture of a RS3000 ECU to show you. Disconnecting it MIGHT solve the issue. Just unplug it if you can find it and report back.
Oh wait.... google images. By the way... toyota labels their stuff well. See?

Ok, thank you so much for that!....wait shall I call 911?? lol.....so I am going to try finding it........I have been going mad with research, so thank you again, gonna try to find this in the dark....I've almost taken apart my whole dash.....!!! will report back soon!
You shouldn't need to take apart the dashboard. MAYBE the kick panel (to the left of the pedals) but that should be it. Use a flash light!

so I found it!! Hahha turns I found it days ago......but thing is I disconnected it and it doesnt even turn at all now?? lol really i am going to go mad! anyway there are 3 harnesses on my ecu, is there a trick to disconnecting this thing? What am I doing wrong? Maybe wrong diagnoses? I was so sure this was it........sigh.....
I think camry may have it behind the dash board. OEM car catalog shows it behind the glove box where the engine ECU and (optional) JBL amplifier is, but that maybe a general pic.
on my 00 solara SE the alarm ECU is under the center arm rest console while RAV4 and Tacomas have them under the driver's seat
EDIT:
make sure you are disconnecting ONLY the box as in picture above (may be gray color instead, but writings must be same).
