4th Generation Engine Check Light & Starter Solenoid

Hi guys,

I recently having problems with the starter. I drive a Camry LE I4, 1999. It has 155k miles on it now. The car usually wouldn't start at the first time of the day. The car would click when the ignition was turned but would not crank. Last week, there was another problem, It got started right away but then the starter would not stop, even when the key was removed.

I figure it was the solenoid problem and follow the instruction from this thread (DIY--Replace Solenoid Contacts and Plunger on 00 Camry V6) and this was amazing, the car started at first click. Even more than expected, the engine check light, which has been on for years now, went away.

HOWEVER,

The light came back on today , plus I found out the cruise control doesnt work any more. I wonder if I broke the cruise control wires as I was working out side, temp was around - 5 degree Celsius. Is there any other possible mistakes?

Can some one shed some light into this and explain to me why this (engine light coming back and cruise control broken) happened. Please help. THANK YOU.

Is your cruise control harness plugged in? I know this is a funny question, but it happens. I've done it before. lol

What CEL are you getting? The same CEL as before?

Yes, I did check the plug to make sure it was properly fitted. I do not have a hand held computer to read the code of the light so I don`t know if it was the same code.
