That code came on yesterday, EGR Malfunction. I cleaned the EGR Valve and #2 Pipe when I had them out last time. Could the #1 pipe be clogged now or the EGR Valve be damaged from the cleaners I used?
unlikely that pipe got clogged so quickly. more likely EGR valve is damaged (might have been all along).
make sure the EGR modulator works as designed (per FSM), then test the VSV for EGR.
if all points again to valve then I would invest into new OEM from online dealer. last time i Paid $140 for a 5s-fe type valve.
on 1mz i think there is also an air gas temp sensor in the valve?
you can check its resistance to see if it fits the range.
Quote:
PREPARATION:
Disconnect the EGR gas temp. sensor connector.
CHECK:
Measure resistance between terminals of the EGR gas temp.
sensor connector.
OK:
Resistance: 2.5 kohm ~ 600 kohm
(Not immediately after driving)
HINT:
If there is open circuit, ohmmeter indicates 720 kohm or more.
If there is short circuit, ohmmeter indicates 200 ohm or less.

Just fixed my EGR modulator today. The one vacuum port going to the vsv had melted shut, must have been a modulator from a car that could have possible had a small fire. I cut the end off of it so the modulator could blow air through it. Drove it around today, the cel turned itself off, so I am guessing its good to go now!
OK guys, last time I had to fix the injectors I forgot to put the two vacuum hoses. The ones going to the right side of the intake plenum. I was in a rush. So I connected them, maybe that should fix the problem?
Hi. I think the hose with the red "X" is the fuel return hose.
I think the hoses with the blue "x" are connected to something called a TVV ( thermal vaccum valve or thermal vent valve ) that have somthing to do with routing vapors from the Charcoal Canister to the throttle body.
Some one else can probably add to this. I don't believe they have anything to do with the EGR valve.
I meant there where two hoses connect to, one comes up from along the lower radiatior hose, the other comes from the VSV area(above the intake manifold). I think one hose is the VSV for EGR.
I know your still looking for a better answer to your previous question about the identity of the two hoses that you circled, but I'm curious about how you cleaned your EGR valve.
You said you cleaned each end of the #2 EGR pipe with a wire brush.
How did you clean the EGR valve itself ( the thing with the rubber flapper inside ) ?
Sorry. I didn't notice that your diagram was for a 2007 Avalon.
i think he's talking about a '99 avalon.
sorry, i haven't touched any vacuum lines on 1mz-fe yet, so can't help. let me try to find a vacuum routing diagram maybe that helps. you should have a sticker with one too under the hood.

I went for a drive and the light didn't go off. Maybe I'll tell my dad to take mine and see if it goes off. Need to replace the transmission pan gasket(already leaking) and fix the windshield washer tank leak on his anyways.

what I did is, I positioned the both of the ends up, or I should say where the bent is to be lower than the ends/openings and poored PB blaster in there and manually opened and closed the valve a bunch of times till the spring would close the valve by itself

takes like 2-3 cycles for the EGR code to go off, does the valve open when you rev it?
