dodgy repair manual

My 97 vienta 3.0 dohc 3vz-fe overheated and blew something serious. The oil looked like yellow milk. Anyway i bought a Haynes manual, (camry 97 thru 02), mine is 6/1997. Whilst working on the car ive been noticing "my oil filler isn';t there" or "my water reservoir is different". Upon further study, This manual uses a 1mz-fe v6.
I dont know if there is many fundamental differences in the design of these 2 v6's, but it has me worried now. Can anyone fill me in please. I've searched and searched for a manual or 'anything' concerning the 3vz-fe(in a camry), with no luck. Im not a confident mechanic with these newer cars, but i have no choice. Last engine i pulled down was a XF falcon 4L straight 6.lol
thanx from anywhere will be long remembered, and much appreciated.

You need a manual for a Generation 3 Camry not generation 4, the Gen3 used the 3VZ engine for 2 years in some markets.

You have PM

In aussie land, the 3vz was used MUCH longer than the US market cars. You'll need a 3rd generation camry manual that covers the 92-93 USDM camry models.

also, the factory service manuals are the way to go when purchasing a repair manual for a car. they cost a lot more but provide much more reliable information. i have a complete set for my 92 camry and couldn't be happier with them. much more detailed than the haynes manual!

Yeah, i wasnt impressed with the haynes manual, to be be subtle, its crap. I wish i had bought a factory manual, but there wasnt any available, i didnt want to wait. The time ive lost trying to use this manual though--it wouldve saved time ordering and waiting for the factory manual.
I have recieved some help in manual regard now, which is an immense help, so many things are different, i was wondering why i couldnt find the thermostat near the starter and DIS.
Anyway thanx again guys.
