2000Camry broken blend door

How easy is it to replace a broken blend door? Is a replacement blend door available? I've got the lower dash pulled apart. Any help for this old duffer will be appreciated. At 71 I should be relaxing not working on a car but old habits are hard to break.
Thanks. redrascal

welcome to forums redrascal

It would help if you explained more on that "blend" door. I personally have no idea what that is...

Is the blend door physically broken?

Im pretty sure the camry doesnt use a vacuum or electronic blend door, its pretty primative.

Broken blend door

The blend door is a door in the heater assembly that moves when you go from cold to hot and I guess allows the amount of cold/hot air coming out the vents. It's a climate control device. On my Camry it's controlled by wire cable. The shaft is broken.I think I will have to remove the heater core to get to it. I will replace it if possible or JBWeld it after I drill it and tap it so I can screw the 2 pieces together. Poor man's fix....The piece sticking thru the heater assembly housing seems stuck since I tried to move it with pliers.Any ideas are welcome. Someone suggested a pen/pencil could have been dropped down the defogger vent however until I get it apart I don't know. I will check with my local dealer to find out if the part is available and try to get an IPB.

I'm afraid that blend door is one piece with the "Heater or Boost Ventilator Control Assembly"

fenixus-thanks for your reply-but the control section is OK. The piece broken is in the red circle. The door is in the heater assembly. The shaft goes into the white piece going to the middle temp control switch of the control section.

OK, gotcha.

I have not much idea about those parts, have never touched them, but here is another diagram for your ride, hope it fits better your problem. let me know if you need any part numbers, just circle whatever you need.

here you go.

Thanks for the diagram-however that does not show the shaft. If you look at my picture the broken shaft is within an inch or so of the slot where the heater core fits in the heater assembly. I've got to look inside the assembly at the blend door. Do you have that diagram....

I can't find anything else on that... I'm thinking maybe that shaft is part of a bigger piece/assembly.
initially I thought it's part of the plastic protector (on far left in above diagram, 87173D), now I see what you mean, not it.

now after I looked again at both pic and diagram I think the shaft might actually be described in diagram as 87106J. is there something like a clip and wheel/linkage mounted on it normally (not in your pic)? check out the middle center area of diagram.

87106J. is the air outlet servomotor which is out of sight on my picture. That is working and gives you the mode of where the air comes out,Defrost, floor,,etc.

ehhh sorry man. I have no clue where that shaft might be. by looking at that diagram it's not even on the heater assembly, because this one (with 2 hoses on top) is kinda flat rectangular box that slides into the housing on right.
I can't see that shaft (for blend door) anywhere.

It might be a good idea to print your picture on larger format (e.g. Walgreens or CVS 1hr photo should do) or take more detailed pics of the broken thing and bring it to dealer's Parts Counter.

maybe some other folks here know more.

Just called my local dealer-the blend door is part of the whole heater assembly and costs $1700. To remove it is a big job since the whole dash has to be removed . Any ideas?

I guess you should start by going to a salvage yard and start pulling another one out ?

after you remove it, start pulling your dash apart

I can get a pulled unit for $125 but don't cherish the work involved.
