removing camshafts, without tools?

Im at the point where Im about to lift the camshafts out of my 3VZ-FE, i dont have the proper tools, can I possibly do it with the basic tools i have, as long as im patient and use extreme caution? What can go wrong?
AAlso, Ive hearc speak of buckets etc. concerning the camshaft etc. is there a DIY thread or diagram/explanation of each component of the camshafts etc.
I know i shouldnt be doing this with my lack of knowledge and tools, but--
you know, cant afford the time or the money . so--here i am.
any tips/advice is appreciated.
thanx
Matt

The buckets are the metal dealies that are sitting on top of each valve stem. These are what the cam shaft lobes push against while opening/closing the valves. When you pull them out, be careful to keep them in order and watch out for the shims that are sitting on top of each one (don't mix them up).
