94 Camry starts but won't go...

Hello. I am wondering if anyone could help me with this... I have an automatic 94 Camry, 4 cylinder. I was on the highway when the acceleration started to slow down. Even though I was stepping on the gas, rpm goes up, it would not go anymore. Once I was able to pull over, when in drive or reverse, the car would not go. I am able to turn the car on and off, but it will not move when in gear. Please let me know if anyone can help me with solving this. Thanks.

I4 or V6?

Edit: So when stepping on the gas, do your rpms spike? or is it just not responsive? Cause my initial reaction would be the throttle body cable is somehow disconnected from the throttle.

Where is the throttle body cable located? I was wondering if the problem has anything to do with needing a new transmission or is there something wrong with the shift sonoid? I checked the transmission fluid level and it's full. I just changed it in September of 2010. You know how when you put the gear into drive, you get the feel of the car shifting and moving foward a little bit? Well, when I put it into drive or reverse, the car just sits there and you can't feel it switching.

Yes, definitely not your throttle body as your rpms go up after stepping on the gas.

Check the ATF fluid to see if its red or the right ATF fluid. I don't know much about transmissions, but it does sound like your shift solenoid is bad which is why your AT doesn't shift, so its stuck in neutral the entire time.

Someone chime in if I'm wrong.

Sounds like a typical transmission flare. What ATF did you use?

Don't drive it now. But with the engine running and putting the shifter into L, do you feel any difference? Test it for a few seconds then shut it down.

If you can find the pin-outs for the solenoid connector you can check them. But most test procedures are for testing them individually off the car.

I'll probably look for an ATRA Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association member shop in your area:

I used Pennzoil ATF. I tried putting the shifter into L and D1 to see if the car would move, but no luck. I turned off the car and started it with the gear in neutral. Once started and in neutral, I gave it a little gas, and put the gear into drive. The car moved until I stepped on the breaks. Then the car could no longer go anymore. It'll only rev up but not move. I turned of the car and tried it a couple of more times, but it didn't work anymore. No, I'm not driving it. It can't even move anywhere, but I can start it though. Do you know if there are any sites or videos I can watch that shows how to change the transmission?
