The "D" light on the panel of my 98 Camry is out

The "D" light on the P-R-N-D-2-L indicator on the dash of my 98 Camry is out. All the other lights show up fine. Could I fix it easily by myself?

Yep! There should be a DIY in the sticky for the 3rd gen camry. The 4th gen is pretty similar. Just look for anything involving the gauge cluster removal and you should be able to figure it out.

look in the faq section or search the forum. There's more than one how-to on this. It's easy, takes about 10-15 minutes for me now that I've done it before.

Mine's out too... I wanted to fix it, but with all the other things I need to do I decided to change my perspective....

If I don't see a light there, I am in the right gear. If something is illuminated, I am not operating under normal conditions....

Before you start tearing the dash apart give it a good whack with a fist a couple times above the gauge cluster. Dont be to gentle since the rubbery dash wont break.

Theres a good chance it'll wake the bulb up. It worked for me.

Let me know if there's a secret to getting that black bezel out lol. I tried pulling it out with my hand and a putty knife and I feel like forcing it will break it.

Did you take the 4 screws out first? After you unscrew it, pry it to the right of the clock and above the far left air vent with a wide flat head. It'll pop out.

Aren't there only 2 for the 4th gen? :P But yah, all screws were out when I tried.

I believe 3rd gen has 4 screws and 4th has 2.

4th Generation

It is like a 5-10 minute job, very easy. However, I did break a plastic little tab on the bezel when I replaced mine on my 99. Screwed it back in though and everything is tight, no noise, rattling, etc. I wasn't about to pay around $80 for a new plastic cover.

Yea the guide in the DIY section explains the procedure very well. When pulling off the trim pieces, just be gentle. Feel around a bit, prying on them near the clips. If you feel like the plastic is bending too much and is getting ready to crack, try prying at a different spot. If you're still unsure, just go to a junkyard and practice on a few of the Camry's there. Grab a few lightbulbs while you're there (but not another D bulb as most of them are burnt out). Also practice pulling off a few door panels for future reference

Thanks guys. After driving my for a couple of days, I could endure this defect. I would save my energy about this and don't want to break other parts in order to fix this.
